Travel Essentials You Should Always Remember to Pack

Travelling is a part of all our lives. Be it walking to the park or driving to work. But mainly, travelling to other cities or even countries for work, vacation or leisure is important as well. To have a safe and timely travel, it is necessary to plan things out before your departure. This article aims at helping you with the most needed travel essentials that will make your journey easier and smoother.


Before anything else, you need to acquire your passport, visa and other mandatory travel documents. Then you can move on to the following items.

Trip/ Location:

Obviously, the first item you need to choose is the kind of trip you are going to have. If it’s an official trip, you would know what kind of outfits and attires you are going to need, as well as some extra clothes in case you decide to stay back to unwind.

If it’s a trip for vacation, have the appropriate clothes that the location requires. Check the forecasted weather beforehand and pack the outfits accordingly. For instance, if you are going hiking, pack sporty clothes or if you are visiting the beach, carry swimwear etc.

Luggage/ Bags:

After selecting a location, pick the most appropriate luggage which is lightweight, versatile and can fit all your essential items. Now, depending upon the kind of trip you are having and the duration of it, you may choose the apt baggage. There are a lot of options for it like rolling luggage, 4 wheels, duffle bags, backpacks, carryon luggage etc. The idea is to pack minimally but also have the items that you truly need for your trip.


Make a list:

Once you are done with the tasks above, the next step is to make a list of everything you think you will need for the trip so you don’t forget anything and this serves as a checklist for you when you’re on your way back home, ensuring you haven’t forgotten anything.

Starting with-

  1. Sweaters or fleece jacket/ shorts and summer clothes/ rain jacket, windbreaker or umbrella
  2. T-shirts and tank tops/ dresses
  3. Pants and/or jeans/ skirts
  4. Belts
  5. Socks and comfortable shoes/ formal shoes
  6. Long/ short -sleeved shirts (depending on your travel)
  7. Pajamas/sleepwear
  8. Underwear
  9. Sunglasses and glasses case/ Hat or sun visor/ Scarf or bandana
  10. Jewelry or accessories
  11. Appropriate footwear
  12. Wristwatch



Toiletries are the basic items you must have regardless of the travel. These include-

  1. Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash
  2. Hair items, including shampoo and conditioner
  3. Soaps and body wash
  4. Deodorant/ perfumes/ body sprays
  5. Sunscreens or face lotions with SPF
  6. Personal hygiene items
  7. Prescription medication & first aid health items
  8. Nail clippers and tweezers
  9. Clothesline and detergent
  10. Sewing kits

Men can further carry-

  1. Shaving kits and gels
  2. Lip balms and lip care products
  3. Men’s Face wash
  4. Men’s lotion/ moisturizer
  5. Beard oil

Women can pack-

  1. Make up
  2. Face wash and/or makeup remover wipes and Q-tips
  3. Night time moisturizer/lotion
  4. Lip balm or lipstick or lip gloss
  5. Feminine hygiene products
  6. Wax strips or shaving razors
  7. Hair brushes & clips and pins
  8. Personal mini mirror


  1. Electric converters and adapters (depending on the country)
  2. Speakers and charger
  3. Laptop and adapter
  4. iPads/ Tablets
  5. Earphones/ Headphones


Now if your travel duration is for a few days, you may not need so many items, hence only pick the ones you require for your trip. Packing extra items may lead to baggage being overweight and troublesome.


This is usually required while travelling in flights, as there is some luggage you ship for the luggage compartments and the other you carry with you inside the flight to keep in the carryon cabinets above. These items may constitute to be-


  1. Cell phone and charger
  2. iPads/ Laptops (if you plan to work during your travel)
  3. Earphones/ Headphones
  4. E- reader


  1. Travel pillow, blanket, eye mask, and ear plugs
  2. Books
  3. Chapstick
  4. Water bottles
  5. Travel Itinerary/ Plan of travel

Further, you need to ensure your insurance, tickets, place to stay, mode of travel is chosen well. Conversion of cash/ credit or debit cards if needed also should be done at this stage.


Once all of this is done, prepare your house to be vacant for a few days, cut of electricity, gas, water supply etc. Also, ensure your home is clean so that when you are back from your travel, as safe and clean space is waiting for you to rest up.
