Exploring the mountain peaks of Kinnaur and Spiti valley

1. Reo Purgyil

Altitude: 6691 meters

2. Shilla

Altitude: 6132 meters

The Shilla word literally means Gateway to Death. This actually is a name which was given to mean as a gateway to heaven since its located in scenic beauty among abundantly floating white clouds.

3. Gya

Altitude: 6795 meters

This mountain peak is located in the Spiti valley. In the local language, it meant Hundred, white, or even a long pointed Chinese beard owing to its shape and opulence.

4. Ramabang

Altitude: 6795 meters

This mountain is considered holy and means the place of Lord Rama. It is located in the Spiti valley and constitutes one of the most important peaks in the Himalayan mountain ranges.

5. Kinnaur Kailash

Altitude: 6050 meters

It is one of the holiest peaks present in Kinnaur and revered by all the people. Hindus and Buddhists alike consider it extremely sacred and holy.

A beautiful monolithic pillar of the great Lord Shiva called as a Shivling is located here in this peak. It is also known as Kinner Kailash and should not be confused with Mount Kailash.

6. Jorkanden

Altitude: 6473 meters

This is the highest peak of the Kinner Kailash range of the Greater Himalayas. It is very nearby the Kinnaur Kailash peak and can be distinguished by the monolithic pillar housed by Kinnaur Kailash.

7. Chau chau Kang Nilda

Altitude: 6303 meters

It is also called as Guan Nelda. This means ‘blue moon in the sky’. This is a metaphor for its milky white beauty shining across the azure blue beautiful sky.

8. Kangla Tarbo 1

Altitude: 6315 meters

This huge monstrous mountain is located in the Lahaul – Spiti valley and is a sight to behold. it is very difficult to conquer but gives a great fight to those who manage to scale it.

9. Raldang

Altitude: 5499 meters

This peak is very thickly blanketed with snow and has a thick projection on the top which makes it easier to identify. It looks very pretty during the sunrise or sunsets when the rays of the sun fall on it.

10. Gushu

Altitude: 5607 meters

It has the least vertical prominence for those looking for a good hike or thinking of trying mountaineering. It has a panoramic view from the top.

11. Shipki

Altitude: 6068 meters

This is the mountain where the Shipki La is located,. The shipki la or shipki pass is an extremely scenic and important passway for the people of Himachal. It is located on the ancient Hindustan Tibet road and has many base camps as well.

12. Phawarang

Altitude: 6400 meters

It is a massive mountain with a very pointed triangular peak. It is located so high above the sea level and can be counted as one of the highest peaks in the Kinnaur-Spiti valley.

13. Daboling

Altitude: ~6000 meters

It is usually invisible during extreme climates and harsh winters. The snow gets heavily deposited and makes it very difficult to spot. This is why very few people attempt a hike here.

14. Ninjeri

Altitude: 6646 meters

It is one of the most pristine peaks present in this area. This is one of the lesser-known peaks but is very peaceful to look at due to it pure, unadulterated beauty.

15. Rangrik Rang

Altitude: 6553 meters

It is located in the southern part of Kinnaur and has a few glaciers to witness. It is a part of the Western Himalayas and boasts of unparalleled beauty and serenity.
